Each festival edition has a different theme that all exhibitions focus on. That way visitors can perceive the various themes from different artistic perspectives. The theme in 2014 is “Upheavals and Utopias. The Other Europe”.
Festival Hub of the Month of Photography Berlin
The former Kennedy museum near Brandenburg Gate is the festival hub of the Month of Photography Berlin. It is also the location for the accompanying programme that includes lectures, lecture performances, debates and talks. The festival catalogue is available at the festival hub too.
The European Month of Photography is a network of European photo festivals. Its foundation goes back to 2004 when photography enthusiasts in Berlin, Paris and Vienna decided to put photographic art at the centre of public attention for a month at least every two years. In 2006 Bratislava, Moscow, Rome and Luxemburg joined the network, in 2012 Budapest and Ljubljana participated for the first time.
Aims of the Photography Network
The members of the European Month of Photography network aim to cooperate on a transnational, European level to exchange information and experiences, to learn and encourage creativity, and to support younger artists. Joint exhibitions of contemporary photography in the partner cities are the means for pursuing that common goal.
The former Kennedy museum near Brandenburg Gate (Pariser Platz 4a, 10117 Berlin) is the festival hub. Exhibitions and events take place at venues throughout Berlin. For more details and full program, see official website.
