About the Film

TSOB explores Belgium’s rich yet untold story in the history of electronic dance music. From EBM through Acid House and New Beat onto the later Techno scene – Belgium produced some of the hallmarks of electronic music throughout the 80s and early 90s. A chronicle of this unique momentum, TSOB is in search of a nation’s spirit and the people that danced to it. A decade before Berlin awakened to dance music analog to celebrating its reunion, Belgium pioneered an immensely popular sound (“New Beat”) and a club culture, by surprise. Its unexpected but short lived success did not only leave a mark on a new generation of musicians in Belgium in the years to come; It’s eclectic mix of sounds and styles had its precursors in earlier decades. TSOB sets out to retell this story through the protagonists of the time. The 1st screening for all of Germany is attended by the Director Jozef Devillé and followed by a Panel Discussion with producers, Dj’s and experts from Belgium and Berlin.

About the Q&A Guests

Jozef Devillé is a Master in Audiovisual Arts from RITS Film Academy in Brussels. He is currently active as an independent documentary maker and cinematographer.

Tanith (Thomas Andrezak) has been active in Berlin’s club culture since the early 90s. He started as a resident DJ in UFO, Berlin’s first Acid house club and was one of the most popular Tekkno DJs in Germany.

Gratts has been playing to festival crouds all over a Belgium, Holland and Germany while curating the house section for 22tracks, running his own label “ensemble,” and recording as a member of the We Play House recordings family.

Peter van Hoesen is a Belgian producer, DJ and label owner, deeply rooted in Brussel’s dance music scene since 1993. Van Hoesen is currently living and producing in Berlin.
