Down Under Berlin

Down Under Berlin is an Australian Film Festival (the only one in Germany) and will take place from 12th until 15th September 2013 with films, short films and documentaries.

” This year we take film culture literally. From 12th to 15th September Down Under Berlin will present a program which is incredibly rich in cinematic visions of art, music and performance. For the first time the film program will be rounded out with thematically linked cultural side events.

A large number of DUB’s films focuses on the arts: From the Australian punk documentaries Autoluminescent: Rowland S. Howard and Distorted, to a Maori interpretation of Shakespeare‘s play Troilus and Cressida at London‘s Globe Theatre in Road to the Globe. Pictures of Susan is a haunting portrait of an autistic artist who communicates through her drawings. Guests to the festival will also be introduced to lush aesthetic universes of arthouse films such as Seuls les Vestiges and Drenched in Glorious Light which will run as part of our respective New Talents Sowcase segments as well as our the short film program Aussie Appetisers.

This year’s events include the Live Opera Outback and Beyond – a musical spectacle that brings together an unforgettable mix of blues, steel guitar and electronic sounds performed by Mike Cooper and Grayson Cooke. The artists blend musical elements with impressive images of the Australian Outback.Also, Anna Morley band is going to play a gig at Moviemento.And in connection with the colourful documentary feature Graphic Novels! Melbourne! DUB furthermore offers a 90 minute Mini Comic Workshop. Peter “Auge” Lorenz, renowned comic book artist since 1987, who will help participants to develop main characters and create a congruent storyline. ”
